Please join The Committee of 100 September Dinner Meeting at the new Grain Exchange on the STAR Campus in Newark.

We will be joined by an engaging panel of speakers to receive updates on the development happening at the STAR Campus, new economic trends for the expanding Bio industry and future opportunities for growth in the Bio industry in Delaware.








Panelists include:

  • Michael Fleming, President of the Delaware BioScience Association
    • Prior to joining Delaware Bio, Mr. Fleming spent two decades in senior strategy, marketing, communications, consulting and corporate responsibility roles in the global biopharmaceutical industry, including 18 years at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) where he was also president of the GSK Foundation. During his three-year tenure leading Delaware Bio, the organization has grown more than 30 percent and launched multiple new strategic initiatives to spark industry growth including a workforce development effort and the state’s first-ever regional Life Science Conference in May 2023. Fleming began his career as an aide to the late US Senator William V. Roth, Jr., first as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill and then as the senator’s Wilmington state office director.
  • Dr. Kelvin Lee, Director of the Manufacturing USA National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL)
    • Dr. Lee is also the Gore Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware, and serves as the interim vice president of research, scholarship, and innovation at the University. He previously served as Director of the Delaware Biotechnology Institute. He received a BSE in Chemical Engineering from Princeton and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Caltech.
  • Rep. Mike Smith, Representative (RD 22) and Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships at the University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences
    • State Representative Mike Smith of Newark was first elected in 2018 to represent in the Delaware House of Representatives the citizens of the 22nd District, which includes Pike Creek Valley and parts of Hockessin and Newark. As a member of the House, Rep. Smith serves on the following standing House committees:  Education; Health & Human Development; Labor; Economic Development, Banking, Insurance & Commerce; and Veterans Affairs. Rep. Smith is Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships at the University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences.
